FRAME OF REFERENCE: ALL ABOUT CHANGING THE VIEW

Mountains look steady when you view them while sitting in a bus or a car, whereas the road looks running in very fast speed. When airplane looks flying by the view from ground, it is steady for the people travelling in it. Just like this, a train running in the same direction as yours seems very slow even when it is running at a speed of 110km/hr. But what’s all this? This happens due to the phenomenon, which we have studied in very early classes, called frame of reference.

It’s all about the view. As soon as you change the view, things start changing in a huge manner. These examples are not to teach you what is, scientifically, frame of reference, but to remind you of this phenomenon which you can apply in your life too.

And this works wonderfully for all the people in all the situations. But why is there a need to implement this in our life? Because, everyone in this world is in distress just because of one sided view. In any particular situation where one person is sad for something, the other person may find him happier than himself. But this is not felt by the first person as he can see things only from the point where he is standing. Once he becomes able to stand at other person’s position, he can definitely understand the concept of frame of reference and feel the difference. Now he can see the 3D image of himself from all around.

This happens in every corner of our life. When you are angry, you ego starts coming out. You want to be expressive when the object of your anger is weaker than you and you want to suppress your anger when the object is stronger than you. This is your mind’s view. The object may not feel anything towards you. And the people around you find it entertaining watching you in anger. You can see how things are different from different angle and point of view. In the situation of anger, when you shift yourself to the position where people are watching you, it will be immediately conceived by your mind that this anger is making fun of you. You can get rid of it. You can take care of it by witnessing it through the people’s perception not your’s. Outside you are going near people to understand your anger but inside you are coming closer to the centre of your mind which remains undiscovered and undisturbed.

One more example of this is that a business man, sometimes, may find it easy to do a job where there is lesser responsibilities and tensions, whereas on the other hand a job doing man always keep thinking to start a business to earn more money and become master of his own without any bossing. And due to this one sided view, they both remain unhappy throughout their life. That is why we all need to have a broader view; to be able to view things from different angles and actually find out whether the mountains are moving or not. It is a simple and yet effective thing to be done.

In whatever phase of life, or in whatever situation, easy or difficult, you are, there are people who can always find it opposite of what you are in. And you can do the same. A very rich person may seem poorer and a very poor person may seem richer. It’s all about frame of reference. And we should definitely understand this concept and apply this in every aspect of our life. It will give us stability in every kind of situation. When there is sorrow, you have some bad feelings but you are stable. When there is happiness, you are happy but do not exaggerate it. It is possible only when you are able to frame it with different views and angles making your view broader.
